Instructions for fixing Easiboards
Boards may be screwed using washers directly to timber framework every 300mm.
All boards should be stuck to walls and floors using flexible tile adhesive and a notched trowel (8mm).
When fixing boards they should be staggered and also screwed using the washers every 300 mm (12 screws per board)
Wet areas should then be tanked using our tanking kit to all internal corners, and where each board joins and washers to ensure anywhere where water can get in is sealed. This will prevent any water damage in the future.
What are tile backer boards and why should I use them?
Tile backer boards are specialised panels that create a stable, moisture-resistant base for tiles. They prevent tiles from cracking, reduce the risk of moisture damage behind surfaces like showers and wet rooms, and are far superior to plasterboard or plywood for tiling installations.
Can I tile directly onto tile backer boards?
Yes — once the backer board is fully secured and sealed, tiles can be fixed directly onto it using a suitable adhesive. A clean, level surface ensures the best bond and long-lasting finish.
Are tile backer boards suitable for floors as well as walls?
Yes — tile backer boards can be used on both walls and floors. Choose the correct thickness and installation method for floors to provide sufficient rigidity and support for foot traffic and tiled surfaces.
What thickness backer board should I choose?
Typical options include thinner boards (e.g., 6 mm) for walls and thicker boards (e.g., 10–12 mm) for floors or uneven surfaces. Thicker boards also offer better thermal insulation if used with underfloor heating.
Can I use backer boards in wet rooms or showers?
Yes — backer boards are ideal for wet environments when combined with proper waterproofing systems. They resist moisture and help prevent mould and damage behind tiles.
Can backer boards help with insulation or underfloor heating?
Yes — certain foam-core backer boards offer insulating properties, which can help when installing electric or water-based underfloor heating, improving heat distribution under tiles.
What’s the difference between backer board and plasterboard?
Backer boards are designed for tiling, with moisture resistance and rigidity that plasterboard lacks. Plasterboard can absorb water and degrade, leading to tile adhesive failure and hidden moisture issues behind tiles.
Can backer boards support heavy tiles?
Yes — when properly installed and supported, backer boards provide a rigid, stable surface that helps prevent cracks or movement in heavier tiles.
